Not a great start – clubhead pointing into the woods TIP: Glance up and check clubhead as you begin the
downswing
Today's focus is on the Catalan captain. A competent if uninspiring
journeyman who very nearly threw the competition away in 2001 when he choked in
the singles against Boross.
Here we look at the swing flaws which have produced that underlying
fragility, and offer some tips which we hope will help him to make more of a
match of it this time.

Not
a great start – clubhead pointing into the woods TIP:
Glance up and check clubhead as you begin the downswing The
bent elbow is typical of the older player TIP:
Put a shortish iron down the shirtsleeve and tucked into the glove. Not
completely legal, but I doubt the opposition will bring it up. Don’t
like the look of this at all. TIP:
Wear a black brogue and give them a quick check just before striking the ball |

Oh
dear, oh dear. Often known as the Gerald Ford or ‘squatting kakpant’ and found in the older player who’s a bit wobbly
on his pins. TIP:
Try putting a drawing pin inside the shoe, under each big toe – that should
keep you back on your heels! But
seriously, a wider stance and stiffer leg is waht
you need. Take a look at the golf scenes from 'Reach for the Sky' and see if
you can't learn something from that |

Big
trouble down here. Worried about losing the ball, he’s decided to set off
into the woods before it. TIP:
Try synchronising stamping your heel with the moment of impact. Shouting
‘mark’, like a rugby player, can often help. |
